Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 30, 2026

Introduction

CSBoard ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our Service.

TL;DR: We collect minimal data, only what's necessary for the platform to work. We don't sell your data. Ever.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Steam Account Information (Public Data)

When you log in via Steam OpenID, we collect publicly available information from your Steam profile:

  • Steam ID - Your unique Steam identifier
  • Username - Your Steam display name
  • Avatar - Your Steam profile picture

This information is already publicly available on Steam. We only store it to provide our Service.

1.2 Trade URL (Optional)

You may optionally provide your Steam Trade URL to enable direct trading functionality. This is:

  • Optional - Not required to browse the platform
  • User-controlled - You can add, update, or remove it anytime
  • Visible to authenticated users - Shown only to logged-in users viewing your offers

1.3 Inventory Data

When you provide your Trade URL, we may fetch your CS2 inventory from Steam's public API to display your items on the platform. This includes:

  • Item names and descriptions
  • Item conditions (float values, wear)
  • Stickers and other item attributes

Note: We do not have custody of your items. We only display publicly available information from Steam.

1.4 User Activity Data

We collect data about your activity on the platform:

  • Trade offers you create
  • Comments you post
  • Items you list
  • Last seen timestamp (for online status indicator)

1.5 Technical Data

  • Cookies - We use a JWT cookie for authentication (keeps you logged in)
  • IP Address - Logged temporarily for security and abuse prevention
  • Browser information - User agent, language preferences
  • Analytics - Anonymous usage statistics via Google Analytics (if enabled)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely for:

  • Providing the Service - Displaying your profile, listings, and trade offers
  • Authentication - Keeping you logged in securely
  • Communication - Enabling comments and trade discussions
  • Security - Preventing fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access
  • Service Improvement - Understanding how users interact with the platform

We do NOT:

  • Sell your data to third parties
  • Use your data for advertising purposes
  • Share your data with advertisers or marketing companies
  • Track you across other websites

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on our servers. We implement industry-standard security measures:

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS/SSL)
  • Secure password hashing (handled by Steam OpenID)
  • Regular security updates and monitoring
  • Access controls and authentication

However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We may share limited data with:

4.1 Steam (Valve Corporation)

We use Steam OpenID for authentication. When you log in, you are redirected to Steam's servers. See Steam's Privacy Policy for details.

4.2 Other Users

Information you publicly share on the platform (listings, trade offers, comments) is visible to other users. Your Trade URL is visible only to authenticated users.

4.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority.

5. Your Rights (GDPR & Privacy)

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access - Request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Rectification - Update or correct your information (you can do this in your profile settings)
  • Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten") - Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Data Portability - Request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Withdraw Consent - Stop using the Service at any time

To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@csboard.trade

6. Cookies

We use cookies for:

  • Authentication (Essential) - JWT token to keep you logged in. This cookie is necessary for the Service to function.
  • Analytics (Optional) - Google Analytics to understand how users interact with the platform. You can disable this in your browser settings.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may prevent you from using certain features.

7. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide the Service. When you delete your account:

  • Your profile and personal information are permanently deleted
  • Your listings and trade offers are removed
  • Some anonymized data may be retained for analytics and legal compliance

9. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country of residence. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your data to other jurisdictions.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on the Service or sending you an email. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
